What’s a Polish girl to do?

11 Feb

A transplanted Polish girl living at the beach.  Where no one has heard of a paczki and they look at you oddly when you mention it.  Well, you go to Kroger and get two iced jelly doughnuts, that’s what!

Last year I made my own paczki.  The process is quite time-consuming and I wasn’t all that impressed with the results, so Kroger to the rescue!

Of course Fat Tuesday means the beginning of Lent, which also means I have to think of something to give up.  I am at a loss.  I was thinking of giving up meat again, but I don’t know.  Any thoughts?

To all my relatives or friends who actually get to eat paczki tomorrow… I hate you!  Only kidding…a little bit…

Find, one song, one last refrain…

Because who doesn’t need a little more Adam Pascal in their life?

Broadway.com did a fun article on Adam and the roles he’s been in.  Take a gander…

In other and totally unrelated news, today is a day of fasting.  I’m not really suffering since I think I ate sooo much yesterday.  Which brings me to more Lenten news.  For Lent you (Christians) give up something and make a sacrifice.  Every year, I make my pact, give up chocolate, sweets, or something like that.  This year I’m going to make it a little more difficult…I’m giving up meat!

I am confident that I will prevail in my Lenten sacrifice.  The one thing I’m really worried about…is bacon…

Stopping tempting me Bacon Motor Inn!

Sigh…I still think I can do it!

I’ve found some good blogs to get my veggie recipes going.

What are you giving up for Lent?

Fat Tuesday

9 Mar

And I don’t mean phat, although that’d be pretty cool too.

Guess what was waiting for me when I got home on Tuesday?

No, not .5KG of sausage and dry ice!

Potato and Cheese Pierogi

Paczki and Pierogi are musts for me to have during Fat Tuesday.  Paczki are kind of like jelly donut’s.  Notice I said kind of…  Paczki should be a little bit more dense.  These particular paczki were filled with an orange marmalade and had orange zest on the top.  Quiet delicious!  The pierogi were also good and I’m glad that Leanne found Polana so that we now have a go to place to order from.  Not that we should be needing pierogi any time soon, since we have two containers in the freezer…

General Fat Tuesdayness ensued…

Step 1: Take out paczki

Step 2: Shove into face!

Step 3: Smile like a goon, and repeat steps 1 and 2 until fully stuffed!

Since we had just gotten the pierogi, we were super psyched to eat them.  So eat them we did.

Don't worry about how much butter or calories are in this meal...

Bond, as always, did an excellent job supervising

Today is Ash Wednesday and a day of fasting.  We are off to church tonight to start off Lent.  I have decided that I am not really giving anything up for Lent, but I am going to make it a priority to go to church, and really eat healthy; not just saying I’m going to eat healthy…

Daily Post

If you could read minds for a day, would you?

Hmmmm…. I don’t know about this one.  I think I’d be afraid of what I would hear.  Can I pick the times that I can read someone’s mind?  I mean, I know I have a lot of stuff going around in my mind that if someone was reading it, they’d think I was nuts!
