Yuppers, so while the East Coast was getting slammed with snow, I was spending some time on the other coast in Seattle.  Our trip started out with only being a four-day getaway but quickly turned into an entire week thanks to the crazy snow in Virginia Beach.

We did some pretty fabulous things, I mean besides spending some quality time with the BFF.

We took an awesome Foodie Tour throughout downtown Seattle.  It was so cool!  We went to about seven different places and walked a mile and a half.  So really we didn’t gain any calories, because we burned them all off with the walking.  Right?  Oh and I have to mention our tour guide, Brett, he was pretty spectacular as well.

Places we chowed down:

The Yellow Leaf Cupcake Co. – We ate the pancakes with bacon cupcake and the tomato soup cupcake (not as tomatoey as you would think, like at all)

Serious Pie – We ate the Truffle Pizza and Margherita Pizza.

Chan – Korean Fusion – We ate braised short rib and a spicy pork slider.  We also had a Ginger Makgeoli, which has ginger rice wine, ginger and lime.  I was not all that impressed with it on the tour, but we went back to Chan (as you can see we hated it)and tried the drink again and loved it.

La Bunoa Tavola –  All things truffles, seriously.

Il Bistro – Seafood risotto, made with fresh seafood from Pikes Place.  It was pretty legit.

Pike Brewing – We tried the Kilt Lifter and an IPA.  I do not like IPA’s, but heard from a reliable IPA source that it was good.  They also paired the beers with cheese from the Mt. Townsend Creamery, that were delicious.

Von’s Gusto Bistro – Salmon Cake.  This was probably my least favorite.  Not because it wasn’t good, but I had just been so wowed by everything else.

Gelatiamo – The raspberry sorbet and chocolate chip gelato.  Both were delicious and tasted even better when mixed together.

The Foodie Tour was a very cool way to tour the city and get to eat great food that we probably wouldn’t have gotten to. I highly recommend it!

If you like big orbs of glass and who doesn’t?  You must check out the Chihuly Garden and Glass.  You have to sign up for a timeframe to get into the museum so don’t expect that just because you got there at a certain time you’ll be getting in.

We also did some exploring of Port Townsend and were told by the lovely lady that, “There is nothing going on today, you came on the wrong day…” Okay then…

Well we DID find some cool stores to visit aaaaannnd a lighthouse!

lighthouse sepiaAlso some super strong kelp.  I mean…look at it!  It’s attached to a rock!

It was an awesome trip and I’m kinda glad Virginia Beach got a ton of snow so I could spend some time with my best friend.  I mean I wasn’t mad about it…

Oh and we saw the gum wall.

It’s gross.

Will run for chocolate…and wine

23 Nov

Mostly for wine.
Remember that blog I had where I told you about races in the area and showed you pictures?
Yeah me either apparently.

Today I did the Race for Chocolate in Williamsburg.  It was their inaugural year, so there were a few hiccups.  Hiccup numero uno was they only had one table for packet pick up….big problem.  People were lined up and circled around trying to get inside the building.  Because of this they had to delay the start of the races.  Not a huge problem, just a little annoying.

Santa led all of the races, so that was pretty snazzy.

The course was really pretty.  It went down a back road with little farms, and dried up corn stalks…and wineries.

After the race was when the wine and chocolate were involved.  Unfortunately I didn’t get either.  Both lines were super long.  They only had, from what I could tell, two people at the wine tasting.  The line for the chocolate was just too long and I was cold.  Soooo, I went into Williamsburg and got a sandwich from the Cheese Shop, life is hard.   If you go to the Cheese Shop and don’t get some of their House Dressing, I don’t think we can be friends.

It was a pretty perfect day in Williamsburg, so I enjoyed my sandwich and coffee al fresco.  I even had my own private acoustic guitar concert.  So, maybe it wasn’t just for me…but I can think it was!

Some prankster called Ninja Art added these minions to the trees in Merchants Square.  They were so cute!  The artist(s) took googly eyes and Sharpie to draw on lemons to make them look like minions.  Pretty smart eh?

20131123-142307.jpgSo there’s my Saturday morning in a nutshell.  How was yours?

Weekend kickin’ it with the Obama’s

12 Nov

Or maybe not…but I was in the same place at the same time!  This weekend we went to DC for a little culture and a little socializing and maybe a few drinks.

On Saturday, I got up and went on a walk/run to the President’s house, tried stopped by and paid my regards.  But those jerks at the front gates would not just take my word that I was a close personal friend of the Prez.

We stopped by a bar on our first night called The Big Hunt.  It was pretty eclectic, including the fuzzy chandeliers, and president masks on a wall.

We went to three Smithsonian Museum’s, which I love.  We saw the First Lady exhibit, the Hope Diamond, and The Star Spangled Banner.  I hadn’t seen it before and it was pretty awe-inspiring.

Our hotel had an Illy’s Coffee below it.  I may never be able to drink any other coffee ever again.  Okay, well that’s not true, but it’ll be begrudgingly.

Oh and Batman was there too.

Five Thing Friday

25 Oct

Today is an exciting Friday indeed!  I get to see these lovely people…

"Looks like a big ol' beach..."

“Looks like a big ol’ beach…”

Mi madre y padre!

2) One of the first graders wore his pants entirely backwards for the whole day yesterday.  A little Kriss Kross action for ya!

3) It has finally decided to be fall in Virginia Beach.  I am a major fan of this.

4) I think this is pretty spot on

5) I have also discovered a new snacky type love.  Pirate’s Booty.  I know I’m late to the game here, but yum!  If anyone wants to send me a few bags…I’m okay with that.  It’s a snack food, trust me!

What’s happening??

2 Oct

Not much, except I’ve been very busy.  Seriously.  I apologize for my disappearing acts, and will try to do better, buuuuttt….

So, I got flowers.  If you want one way to make all the teachers of your school jealous, get flowers.

So we already know my best friend is amazing.  Even though she lives on the West Coast she still managed to get me an awesome birthday present that includes bacon.  Bacon Rice Krispy Treat anyone?

I also attended a wedding this past weekend.  It was beautiful with good food, good drinks, and good people.  Congratulations Clay and Charlotte!

School News

Today when asking how much a dime was worth a student answered, “Ten diamonds!”  I am going to have that kid as a friend forever!  Never learn how much a real dime is worth!

Happy Birthday to me!

14 Aug

Hello there! It’s been a busy couple of days. My birthday was on Monday and we spent it at Busch Gardens, literally until it closed. It’s pretty fun riding roller coasters at night. Just sayin’.

I did indeed get some birthday cake and shared it with some pretty cool individuals that also had August bday dates.

I also got beautiful flowers…

And some pretty spiffy kicks.

Oh and a new headband. I think they will be all the rage for the fall season.

In unrelated news, I made my own ice cream bars. I saw a recipe on Pinterest and was pretty sure I could pull it off.
I used:
8oz Chobani key lime yogurt
Leftover lemon verbena whipped cream (about a cup?)
5 sheets of graham crackers
8×8 baking pan

Break graham crackers into two and lay 5 on the bottom of a foil lined baking pan. Mix together yogurt and whipped cream. Pour on top of graham crackers. Place remaining graham crackers on top. Put in freezer for at least 4 hrs or until yogurt mix has hardened. When ready to enjoy, just cut into squares!

Weekend shenanigans

11 Aug

According to my iPhone that is.

This is so true!

1 Aug

Yesterday we went out to dinner at Terrapin.  They have an awesome deal on Wednesday’s.  You get fried chicken, mac n cheese, a veggie, aaaaannd a glass of Pinot Noir for $20!  It’s amazing and so much food!!

Bond has not concept of personal space.  All space is his space, as it was pointed out to me…

I am loving Panic at the Disco’s new song Miss Jackson.  Seriously, I’ve been listening to it on repeat.

But I do wonder what the deal is with artists using “Miss Jackson” in their songs.

Yesterday I ran on the treadmill for, wait for it, 30 mins without stopping or walking.  Who’s impressive?  Right, right?  Hey it’s all about the little victories.

Another little victory?  I made these chicken tenders and they were delicious.  Really they were and they even came out crunchy, which is an issue when making baked breaded things.  By the by How Sweet It Is is one of my favorite food recipe blogs.

Happy Thursday!

I’m Lovin’ It

13 Mar

Oh yes, I am…

Shamrock Shake in ma belly!

A post shared by @ erag82 on

That just happened and it was worth every calorie.  I then proceeded to run for a half hour and walk to the grocery store.  I think it all balanced out.  Right?

What else am I lovin’ right now?  A little J. Timberlake.

He was absolutely hilarious on SNL this past weekend.  He should really be a regular cast member.  That’s totally doable, right?  Anywho.  He is on Jimmy Fallon every night this week.  Last night, he brought sexy back.

Five Thing Friday

8 Mar

Happy Friday!

1) My day started out with a pretty good omen…

Free cookie! Maybe it will be a good day.

A post shared by @ erag82 on

Don’t look at the fact that the cookie is broken in half.  Just realize that I got this cookie for free!  For free people!

2) I got not one, not two, but three emails from different stores saying they missed me.  They then gave me coupon codes to use on their sites.  Stop trying to make me spend money I don’t have!

3) Obligatory cat shot

He was very excited about seeing birds.

4) I watched The Master last week…holy crap Joaquin Phoenix does amazing crazy.

What’s he drinking out of that beaker?  Basically paint thinner mixed with some other chemicals and a dash of alcohol.  Nutso

5)  This weekend starts the longer distance training for the Flying Pig.  It’s a necessary evil, emphasis on the evil.  I know I have to do it, but it really sucks getting started.
