39.3 Part 2

17 Nov

Where did we leave off…?  Oh yeah, Saturday evening…

Well, Saturday evening started off well enough.  We went back to The Black Pelican to watch football and eat some more of those lovely oysters, good times.  We then decided to leave The Black Pelican and go to another restaurant for pasta.  Because it’s important to carbo load the day before any type of marathon.  Fatal mistake!

We traveled the 2 or so miles to the other restaurant and went inside; it was packed.  Good sign, right?  Not so much.  We waited, and waited, and waited, and waited some more.  I felt like I was slowly withering away into nothingness, my brain becoming a pile of goo.  Ok, so maybe a little over dramatic, but whatever.  We did eventually get seated, but that was followed by more waiting.  I don’t want to give away how awesome the service or food was, because Leanne is going to post that.  Let’s just say we went to the hotel and ate more food.  Not good eats.

No, Alton, just no. You'd be so disappointed.

Saturday night we went to bed relatively early since we had to be up before the sun on Sunday, no really.

We got up at 4 on Sunday and all I wanted to do was turn over and go back to sleep.  I didn’t, obviously.  Got all of our gear on, I forgot to take a picture.  You’ll have to cut me some slack, it was darn early!  I checked out of the hotel and made our way to the finish of the half marathon.  The marathon and half marathon did not go in a circle.  Either you had to drive to the finish and take a shuttle to the beginning or start and the beginning and get a shuttle at the finish to the beginning again.  We chose parking at the finish and being shuttled to the beginning.  This was a very wise choice because the shuttles at the end to the beginning were taking an hour or so to get back.

We got to the finish around 5:15 or so and found parking  and meandered over to the shuttle buses.

Nice warm bus!

We sat all the way in the back and were bordered by complaining moms and a little boy and his dad.  The dad was running, the little boy was just there for moral support.  Man did that kid have a ton of questions!  I think he talked from the time we got on the bus until we got off…craziness.

We got to the start around 6 and found are corral!

The last corral, no really!

We waited around, people watched, I found this awesome hotel…

Yeah Bacon Motor Inn!

Waited some more, went to the bathroom…the usual.  Then, it was finally time to start the race.  I can’t remember if a gun went off or if we just kind of started, regardless, we had to wait until they got to us.

And now, you will have to wait, until tomorrow for the half marathon journey!

On a side note…

I got a picture today saying that I was, “the best teacher in the world!”  My cooperating teacher got a picture saying, “you are the brightest star in the sky!”  Too cute!
