Foodie Penpals June

30 Jun

It’s one of my favorite times of the month!

Foodie Penpal reveal day!  This month I got paired up with Heather over at For the Love of Kale.  She sent me a great package!

Let’s take a gander: Pizza Flax Snax - I was a little skeptical, but they totally do taste like pizza!, Justin’s dark chocolate peanut butter cups – These were a semi fatality due to the crazy heat wave.  Don’t worry, I popped them in the freezer.  Good as new! Popped Apple Chips – I already have a love affair with apple chips, these are no different.  I could seriously eat the whole bag in one sitting.  I had a little self-control this time and only ate half the bag.  Lastly, a protein powder.  This one is specifically for recovery.  I’ve never used protein powders, I probably should, especially after long training walks/runs.  Anyone have any suggestions for me?

Thank you so much Heather!  Your pen pal package is almost all gone!

If you want to participate in the fun that is #Foodie Penpals, check out Lindsey’s blog!  I highly recommend it!

Foodie Penpals – February Edition

28 Feb

Guess what I got!

A new box for Bond to play in?

No! My February Foodie PenPal Box. This month I was paired up with the wonderful RealFitMama.

There was a great card that her daughter made:

Like she actually made it . She started an eco-friendly greeting card business at her summer camp where they made and sold their greeting cards. Pretty cool.

Inside were a bunch of goodies!

My loot included:

Luna Chocolate Protein Bars – delicious!

Dirty Sweet Potato chips – which made me think of Mike Rowe

welcometomysoapbox.blogspot.com

Odd connection? Maybe, but he did a Dirty Jobs shoot at Dirty Potato Chips, so there!

Gatorade Propel Water Bottle Packets – helps out with a fruity taste when I’m drinking water alllll day.

Annie’s Mac n Cheese – Parmesan Cheese Flavor. I had this on Friday with some broccoli, yummy!

Schlafly’s Pumpkin Beer – This was so good, I half want to drive/fly to St. Louis to get some more!

Tahini – I’ll have to attempt to make my own hummus again. The first time I tried, I didn’t turn out very well…but maybe this time I’ll be able to remedy it.

I have already tried and loved a lot of my goodies! Thank you so much Real Fit Mama!

If you missed my other Food Penpal Box take a gander.

If you want to participate in the Foodie Penpal greatness (which I recommend you do) here are the rules:

Lindsey at The Lean Green Bean came up with this ingenious idea!

On the 5th of the month, you will receive your penpal pairing via email. It will be your responsibility to contact your penpal and get their mailing address and any other information you might need like allergies or dietary restrictions.
-You will have until the 15th of the month to put your box of goodies in the mail. On the last day of the month, you will post about the goodies you received from your penpal!
-The boxes are to be filled with fun foodie things, local food items or even homemade treats! The spending limit is $15. The box must also include something written. This can be anything from a note explaining what’s in the box, to a fun recipe…use your imagination!
-You are responsible for figuring out the best way to ship your items depending on their size and how fragile they are. (Don’t forget about flat rate boxes!)
-Foodie Penpals is open to blog readers as well as bloggers. If you’re a reader and you get paired with a blogger, you can choose to write a short guest post for your penpal to post on their blog about what you received. If two readers are paired together, neither needs to worry about writing a post for that month.
- Foodie Penpals is open to US & Canadian residents. Please note, Canadian Residents will be paired with other Canadians only. We’ve determined things might get too slow and backed up if we’re trying to send foods through customs across the border from US to Canada and vice versa. So, I’m going to keep two separate lists and match US w/ US and Canada w/ Canada!

Sound like fun? If you’re interested in participating, please send an email to Lindsay at theleangreenbean@gmail.com and include the following information:
-Your full name
-Your email address
-Your blog name/address
-Your twitter handle (if applicable)
-WHETHER YOU ARE A US RESIDENT OR CANADIAN RESIDENT. – this is SUPER important so she can get you on the right list!

Foodie Penpal!

31 Jan

I apologize now, this post is very random, but filled with very important things!  Kinda like me!

First off, I participated in a foodie penpal program set up by TheLeanGreenBean.  She came up with the ingenious idea of sending foodie gifts to other bloggers and readers.  This was my first time, but I was super excited to participate.  I got a box from the lovely Amanda at http://everduring.blogspot.com/

In my box: tea, Green and Black’s Peanut and Sea Salt chocolate bar (kinda tastes like Reese’s Cup, love!), cherry honey, and two Kind bars (apricot macadamia and blueberry pomegranate and nut) the apricot/macadamia might be my new favorite.  Thanks so much Amanda!!!

I also got to give a box to another blogger, specifically Darlynn at Little Blog Dress (her website is great and very helpful/informational)

:)  I loved doing this and am already signed up for this month!

Onward!

I got my second bottle of wine from the Virginia Wine of the Month club:

A red table wine by Veritas, a local Virginia Winery (duh).  It was quite easy to drink and I really enjoyed it!  I will be on the look out for it when I’m out and about (when I used to go out…;)

Lastly

I bought my first pomegranate this weekend (they were on sale!)

I then tried to depomegranate them.  I saw tips that said get a bowl full of water and they’ll just come out…or just cut a few slits down the side then smack them with something, the seeds will come right out.  I tried both methods…the seeds did not just come right out.

What I ended up doing was submerging them in water and then used my fingers to pick out the pomegranate seeds.  It worked, but I know there’s got to be an easier way!
