April Foodie Pen Pals!

30 Apr

This post is being edited by Bond…

Ugh, he’s such a stickler for grammar!

It’s the end of the month, so that means…Foodie Pen Pals!

Look here, and here for past entries.

This month I was paired up with Lily over at Eating For Excellence. I told her I was up to try new things and she sent me a couple of things I’ve been interested in trying!

This is take two of this photo.  When I got Lily’s box I immediately took a picture of everything, she even had a cute note!  When I went to upload the photo this week…totally gone!  So while Bond is my blog editor, my camera is apparently my photo editor.

Onto the box!

Snacker Jack’s Popcorn- I ate some of this the other day, super delicious!  It has tahini and sesame seeds in it!  (I almost wrote Tracker Jackers Hunger Game obsessed anyone?)

Dark Chocolate bars x2 – I have already eaten one of the bars, which was dark chocolate w/raspberry I believe.  I love, love, love dark chocolate!

Odwalla Protein Bars – I love Odwalla products and their bars.  I haven’t yet tried their protein bars so I was excited to have three to gorge myself on!

Chia Seeds – This was one of the things I’ve been wanting to try.  I always see them on blogs and have heard how good they are for you.  Super excited to try them out!

Pecan Butter – Another thing I wanted to try.  I’ve had almond butter, hazelnut butter, but that’s as far as I’ve gone.   Tomorrow morning’s English Muffin may or may not have some Pecan Butter slathered all over it!

Cliff Bars x2 – In the picture is a Chocolate Brownie Bar.  I stuffed the Cherry Chocolate Bar in my carry on bag for my wedding travels.  It’s a good thing because it was the only thing I ate coming back from Columbus!

I loved the box Lily put together for me.  Thanks Lily!  If you want to see what I did for my pen pal, check it out over at Foodasaurus Rex!

If you are interested in becoming a Foodie Pen Pal, which I think you should…  Here are the details!

On the 5th of the month, you will receive your penpal pairing via email. It will be your responsibility to contact your penpal and get their mailing address and any other information you might need like allergies or dietary restrictions.
-You will have until the 15th of the month to put your box of goodies in the mail. On the last day of the month, you will post about the goodies you received from your penpal!
-The boxes are to be filled with fun foodie things, local food items or even homemade treatsThe spending limit is $15The box must also include something written. This can be anything from a note explaining what’s in the box, to a fun recipe…use your imagination!
-You are responsible for figuring out the best way to ship your items depending on their size and how fragile they are. (Don’t forget about flat rate boxes!)
-Foodie Penpals is open to blog readers as well as bloggers. If you’re a reader and you get paired with a blogger, you can choose to write a short guest post for your penpal to post on their blog about what you received. If two readers are paired together, neither needs to worry about writing a post for that month.
- Foodie Penpals is open to US, Canadian residents & UK residents.  Please note, Canadian Residents will be paired with other Canadians only. We’ve determined things might get too slow and backed up if we’re trying to send foods through customs across the border from US to Canada and vice versa. So, I’m going to keep two separate lists and match US w/ US and Canada w/ Canada!

***If you’re in the UK, please contact Carol Anne from This Is Rock Salt at rocksalt@thisisrocksalt.com to get involved!

Have a great Monday!

Oh!  I have less than a week ’til it’s Pig time!  I’m looking forward to it, it may even decide not to rain.

Seven Things Saturday

29 Apr

Hollah!!  What’s up!

Sorry you didn’t get a Five Things Friday or a Seven things Saturday yesterday.  WordPress is acting all shady like and not wanting me to write on my blog.

Seriously rude WordPress,seriously.

This countdown,up? is going to center around Leanne and Phil’s wedding.  Just cuz ya know, I haven’t shown you anything from the actual wedding.  If you want to see the other post on the wedding just look over here!

5…k)  This is the way that Leanne and Phil’s wedding day was started.

It was fun and a great way to start the day!  Mom and I walked it.  Guess what?  We beat two runners!  Haha!

4) After the 5K we rushed around at and went over to Station 67.  Station 67  is a really unique and venue if you are getting married in Columbus.  It totally does not fit it’s location, like at all.  The staff there were so accommodating and helpful.  They also put up with most anything we threw at them.

The most important thing…eating!  We gave ourselves enough time to get to the venue, but not to get to the venue and get something to eat.  My parents brought us Max and Erma’s.  We are both eternally grateful!  The other most important thing, practicing walking down the stairs in heels!

Spoiler alert, I didn’t fall down the stairs!

3) Leanne got her hair and makeup done for the wedding.  The hairstylist and her assistant did an amazing job!

So pretty!

2) The lovely couple…

I mean, c’mon!

1) It was a perfect wedding and weekend.  Leanne and Phil looked gorgeous.  Everything was taken care of and thought of by Leanne and her brother Brad.  Seriously Brad, you did an awesome job!  I was so happy to be apart of it and to be the Maid of Honor no less.  I did have to give a speech, but I think it went okay.

I did use a cheat sheet, but I didn’t want to forget something or just ramble on and on…but I didn’t, it’s all good.

Great night, beautiful couple, people cried, people laughed, people didn’t sit down during the ceremony…oh well.

Happy wedding Leanne and Phil!  I am so happy for you both!

Green Goddess

26 Apr

Today after school I was very excited to go to Shorebreak and pick up my CSA and farm goodies!

This week I purchased the weekly Seasonal Selection from Mattawoman Creek.   The cost is $18 plus tax, but look at my haul!

In my bag I got:

two heads of lettuce

two heads of kolhrabi

carrots

spinach

head of tatsoi

I’m pretty confident that I know what to do with everything, but the kohlrabi.  I looked it up and it’s supposedly a cabbage like tasting veggie.  How do I use this thing!?

Off to the side of the picture I got some other things from Full Quiver Farms.  Full Quiver is a small, family run farm out in Suffolk VA.  They endorse natural meat and eggs.  No animals in cages or in small spaces.  All the animals are out and grazing around the farm.  From Full Quiver I got a dozen eggs, Polish keilbasa, and hot sausage.  I’m super excited!

In Other News

I think I mentioned that I loved my bouquet from Leanne’s wedding, right?  Well, I do!  I loved it so much that it came on the plane with me on the flights back from Columbus.

I got some weird looks, but mainly everyone loved it.  Even the TSA lady was super nice about allowing me to bring it through security.  I had a lady on the shuttle bus in LGA tell me about all the bridesmaids dresses she has worn and then gave to her daughters as Prom dresses.  Then on my last flight the woman sitting in front of me showed me her lily tattoo and we talked about all the different types of lilies.

And now…here the sit.  I hope they never die!!

Seriously, even when the plane landed and we were hydroplaning to the right…almost heading into the water…I was holding onto the flowers for dear life!  Ya know, not important stuff like myself, or cell phone…

School News

The kids needed to get up and moving today so they went out to play some dodge ball.  Don’t worry we used the softest balls, it was totally safe.  As one of the girls was throwing her ball to the boys (because of course it was boys vs. girls) she yelled, “You guys are ball less!”  Whoa, whoa, whoa!  She meant that the boys did not have any of the dodge ball’s to throw, that’s not what it sounded like.  Thankfully all of our boys are innocent and didn’t hear what the teachers heard.  However, the teachers were dying.  But how else would you say it?

Suggestions on kohlrabi?  How would you tell the opposing team that they were out of balls?

I know I promised part 2 of the wedding and I didn’t forget.  It’s coming, I swear!!

April Birchbox

25 Apr

Earlier this month I got my Birchbox.

I seriously love this concept, as you can see from March’s post!  This month’s theme was Natural Wonders.

Whatcha see:

***updates***

1) dropps laundry detergent.  They look like the capsules you use in the dishwasher, but are for washing clothes!  I used one of the two on a load and they got my clothes clean and it smells great! * I used these in the laundry and they worked great!  There really wasn’t a fragrance, which I kinda missed…

2) Amika hair mask.  I am looking forward to trying this out.  It’s like an ultra conditioner, super exciting! *I used my entire hair mask and honestly didn’t really notice that much of a difference in my hair.  I use conditioner every time I wash my hair anyway.  After using the mask my hair felt the same as it does when using my regular L’Oreal conditioner.

3) Juice Beauty Oil Free Moisturizer:  I’m looking forward to using this during my next trip.  It’s the perfect travel size! *Not a fan.  It made my nose and forehead break out.

4) Zoya nail polish in Lotus: I just put this on last night!  I love the color, it’s a purple with a little bit of sparkle and iridescence.

5) Taylor Swift’s perfume Wonderstruck:  This is a very light and clean scent.  Now only if it came with the success and money.  Don’t so much want all the bad boyfriends that she’s had.

In unrelated news…

I got a survey from Delta the other day.  It was asking me about my delayed flight.  See what happened was…when I was in Columbus, they started to load us on the plane only to have the first section of people promptly turned around and sent back.  We were then told that one of the pilots had gotten sick.  I saw a crew member get off the plane, totally fine.  Suspicious.  Then they said they needed to find a new crew member and it would be about an hour until they got there.  About 30 minutes later we were on the plane.

The new crew member was someone already on the plane, he didn’t come from anywhere new…  Again suspicious.

Oh well, we got to the next stop and I made it home.  I guess that’s all that matters.

When the cat’s away…

23 Apr

Those mice will play!  My title doesn’t have anything to do with what this post is about, but I am feeling uncreative.

If I haven’t said so already, this weekend was all types of awesome!  I’m going to give you a quick rundown.  I know I will leave something out and it’s inevitable.

Thursday:

Leanne and Phil got married for the first time!

It was held in our family church back in Ohio.  All the flowers were still up from Easter.

Afterward we had dinner at El Meson in West Carrollton.  They specialize in Peruvian food and tapas.  Everything was delicious!  Leanne’s mom was super sneaky and had two cakes brought to dinner.  I forgot to get a picture, but just take my word for it.

Friday:

Rehearsal dinner up in Columbus.  We spent the morning driving around, doing a test run on bridal hair and looking at the glorious flowers that Petals and Leaves had put together for the wedding.  If you are getting married in Columbus or somewhere close; I highly recommend them.  They were awesome!

Bridal hair

The rehearsal dinner was at Schmidt’s in German Village.  When Leanne and I went to college in Columbus we would often go to Schmidt’s.  We love the Bahama Mama sausage and their cream puffs.  To die for!

Mkay, that’s where I’ll stop for today.  I have plenty more to say, but I feel like it deserves its own post.

So, I’ll leave you with this.

We’re Not Young.  I’m sure you’ve seen it, but I heard it on the radio for the first time today and thought it was hilarious!

Peace out homies!  I’m going to try and make it an early night, since I didn’t get any sleep last night!

Party, party, party

20 Apr

Posts for the next couple of days may be few and far between.  There’s just a little event happening, no biggie.

It has been a great weekend so far.  It has included delicious food, spending time with family and friends, and lots of laughter, just like I would want to spend this weekend!

So, just in case I don’t see ya…

To Infinity

18 Apr

And not really beyond. I know where I’m going…it’s the heart if it all.
It’s airport time! Which is,of course, the most exciting time ever! I really wish there was a sarcasm font. It would pretty much be used all the time in every post.

Airports are funny. You have the people who really know what they’re doing. Then those who seem to have no concept of what it means to travel let alone get in an airplane. Always interesting…

For example the lady in front of me went through the medal detector three times. She also had her bags go through the scanny thing, very scientific, I know, three times.

I was lucky on the first leg of my trip out, I had a row of three all to myself. I felt like I was in the cushy lanes on Seinfeld!

By the time I got to Atlanta it was well past my dinner time. Guess what I found? Healthy airport eats!

It hit the spot!

On the last leg, it was at the perfect time to see the sunset.  The horizon looked so cool, you could see the different gradients of color!

20120419-092239.jpg

That I realize is not the best picture, but what do you want from me!

Today is an exciting day!  And I can’t wait to get it started.  Have a good one everybody!!

Pack it in!

17 Apr

I’ve spent my time home packing.  Ugh, I hate packing!

However, it’s for a great reason…Leanne and Phil’s wedding.  It is definitely an exciting event, the wedding not the packing.  So you see packing is not a great blog post, right?

So I’ll leave you with something that keeps me entertained.

I give you, the wonderful world of Jenna Marbles. (Fair warning, there is some cursing, so don’t play it at work or around your grandma…k??)

It’s over too soon

15 Apr

I can’t believe it!  Spring Break is almost over.  How did that happen?  I have thoroughly enjoyed my Spring Break.  It was just what I needed.  I was able to get some much-needed training, sleep in, and catch up on my Netflix queue.  On Friday I went to Norfolk to go to the bookstore and the mall and needed some grub whilst out.  I went to Chipotle, cuz I had gift cards… It was a gorgeous day and I say out side to eat and guess what!?  There was free entertainment!

20120415-135418.jpg

His sign said he was a struggling student from ODU. (If you’re in college I don’t know when you are not struggling!)  He was pretty good, but he left before I could give me a tip!

Bond seems to like my owl mug as well…and maybe coffee!

20120415-135434.jpg

I went out for another 4 mile walk.  I also did four miles on Friday.  I went into the sheshe neighborhood by the inlet.  Seriously while I was walking through it, three landscaping trucks rolled through.

Speaking of my Netflix queue, I watched An American Crime.  It’s the story of Sylvia Likens who in 1965 was tortured and abused in Indiana.  It’s truly crazy to think that this type of stuff happens.  While I was watching I thought of my mom.  That’s not weird, right?  No, she is nothing like the Sylvia Likens story in fact she is probably the polar opposite, but I knew she’d appreciate it.

This has been a seriously random post, but whatevs.

Next week is a three day week and then it’s on the Leanne and Phil’s wedding!!  Super stoked!

I’m a decathlete!

12 Apr

That’s what you call someone who’s walked or ran ten miles, right?  No?

Oh well, I did really walk ten miles today.  I’m trying to up my mileage so that I’m ready for the Flying Pig.  So far I think I’m up to 26 miles for this week…I think I’m doing alright.

Today was a great day for a 10 mile walk.  Just look at the sights!

I went to First Landing State Park and did the Cape Henry Trail, for a total of ten miles.  It was the perfect day, if not a little windy.  The high today is supposed to be 59 and I think it was around 55 when I was walking.  That’s comfortable, right?  Some dude thought that he was in the freaking tropics and was taking a leisurely stroll with no shirt on!

It was not warm enough for that!  How was he not freezing??

In making friends wherever I go news;  I really made a runner mad today.  She was running right at me, on the wrong side.  If you run, walk, bike…a lot you know there are certain rules to follow and that you stay on a certain side of the trail or path coming and going.  She was on the wrong side.

I was feeling stubborn and in my groove so I wasn’t moving.  She got closer and closer and had to swerve at the last minute.  Throwing her hands up in the air and giving me a nice scoff on her way past.

Sorry…you were on the wrong side.

Happy Thursday!
